FACTS LUNCHEON WITH US CONGRESSWOMAN VIRGINIAS FOXX, NORTH CAROLINA

The Florida Association of Cosmetology and Technical Schools (FACTS) hosted a luncheon for Representative Virginia Foxx of North Carolina on March 26, 2012 in Orlando. Congresswoman Foxx is the Chair of the House Subcommittee on Education and the Workforce.

This meeting provided an opportunity for the organization to have casual yet very meaningful discussions with the Congresswoman on many issues affecting our Industry. In specific, we discussed regulatory reform and relief in the area of State Authorization. The Congresswoman was very sympathetic to our cause and expressed her support of our efforts to bring this issue to a positive resolution. Additionally we discussed the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia recent ruling denying the Department of Education’s motion to revise the vacated portion of the Federal Program Integrity Gainful Employment regulation.

Other items discussed included the Ability-to-Benefit program and Senator Patty Murray’s desire to restore partial eligibility for students enrolled in “career pathways” programs. Even as Florida does not have such a program we recognize that any and all discussions on the ATB programs for our students are positive discussions.

In summary, Congresswoman Foxx was very supportive of the efforts of the FACTS organization and the various issues for which we advocate on behalf of the Florida Schools.
